Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that primarily affects the skin. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly accelerates the growth cycle of skin cells, resulting in the rapid accumulation of skin cells on the surface. This leads to the development of red, thick, and scaly patches, known as plaques. These plaques can be itchy, painful, and may cause discomfort for individuals with psoriasis. 

The exact cause of psoriasis is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Triggers for psoriasis flare-ups can include stress, infections, certain medications, and changes in weather. There are many different types of psoriasis and one person's experience may differ greatly from others!
